Mom
Shoots Accused Child Molester: What Happens Next?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
by Bill Bickel
On November 30 of last year, a Kentucky man was arrested on child molestation
charges, charged with nine counts of sodomy with young boys. Nude photos of
25 boys were recovered from his home.
As he was being released on bond two days later, the mother of another boy -- who'd spent time with the man but had not, by any evidence, been either molested or photographed -- shot the suspect in the groin. She was charged with two counts of assault.
On March 1, 2002, the grand jury declined to indict the woman (whose name is being withheld from the media to protect her son) on "first-degree assault, and assault under extreme emotional disturbance" charges. Prosecutors will not present the charges again, so she's off the hook.
